Happy Birthday Dylan!

Yesterday was my nephew Dylan's birthday! It was a carnival theme party with a popcorn bar and games. Dylan wasn't too interested in opening his presents. But I think he is making a good competitive eater in training because he totally went to town on his cake.

I swear I'm not becoming a crazy cat lady...

...but all I've been doing lately is sitting on the couch watching the Olympics and taking photos of Kitty...

a single girl's guide to valentine's day

1. I made myself a heart-shaped burger for Valentine's Day. I don't need a man to make heart-shaped meat product for me. But it would be nice.

2. On Valentine's Day morn Chelsa and I grabbed brunch at Blue Bayou where I had a crawfish omelet and we split some beignets.

Then we met Joe and Alina and Cornie and some others to see Casablanca at Music Box. Can you believe I've never seen it before? It was really good but it kind of took me too out of it that I kept thinking "Oh, that's where that line is from!" and the fact that the couple in front of me kept making out...

3. I haven't watched the Olympics since I think the Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding year...I just never really cared. But for some reason I started watching it on Saturday and can't get enough. It's been pretty awesome.

4. My Valentine's Day hair was pretty cute. Just sayin.

(semi-inspired by the women's skiers...its how I wear my hair when I ski. Which is never. Because I have a nervous breakdown at the top of bunny hills. But I wear it like that because I need to keep my hair out of my face but still want to look like a girl.)

5. I took a lot of photos of Mr. Bo. I swear I am not a bitter old cat lady. He's not even my cat!

Last Sunday was MK's birthday...which meant we totally celebrated it and didn't sit around all day watching football...

But anyways.

Friday he had a get together at his house. Which meant I had to drive to Bolingbrook. Which meant I had to dig out my car...It was kind of buried under a foot and a half of snow and had a mound piled up behind it. After spending a half hour scraping and shoveling I got it out. Only to get stuck in the alley. But then I managed to shovel out some snow from under the tires and finally was on my way.

I got to MK's around 8. And he was kind of drunk when I got there. It only got kind of worse...

Julie and I drank a bottle of wine and I had some Ecto-Cooler inspired somekindadrink and we all played with the nerf guns and helicopter.

I may have accidentally texted JoeW's parents house from MK's phone "I Love You"...did you know that if you do that it will call the person and leave a transcribed message? Oops.

And did I mention that MK was pretty wasted? But shhh, don't tell anyone!

I left around 2 which meant at around 3am I got stuck in the alley and had to shovel myself out. And then still kept getting stuck trying to park so I gave up, got stuck again, had to drive around looking for a free spot that wasn't covered in snow. :( And my back hurts again now.

But anyways.

Happy Birthday MK!

Jen neglected to share some of the best photos from her wedding...random closeups of Doug and Kurt! :-)

Can't we all just agree that they're cute?

Sunday was the greatest most epic sporting event of the year! That's right: THE PUPPY BOWL! When else can you watch a day full of cute widdle puppies running amok on a field, hamsters in a blimp...a kitty halftime show!?!?!?!

Oh. Some other people played football too. I guess.

The day started early at Joelina's place to catch up on House and 24. Unfortunately their dvr didn't record them but we finally got them working.

Sunday was also MK's birthday and since we all know how much he loves football we totally celebrated with a car cake :)

Then some people played football or something.

And commercials. Although none of them were that fantastic. The Budweiser Clydesdales always make me cry though. For serious. And the sock monkey getting a "tattoo" made me happy.

There was lots of good food...

And JoeJoe's monkey....

And lots of good people...

And a text book that for some reason had missiles pointing at giant penguins as examples...

So, go sports team! Someone won the game! Woo to the hoo!

Fantasy of the Cuckoos Nest

1. Dallas is winning the race against Charlottesville for places to visit. They have several muffler men and the World's Largest Patio Chair. Although the Patio Chair comes nowhere close to the World's Largest Rocking Chair...I base all of my travel decisions on who has the largest what.

2. Last Wednesday Chelsa and I went for some Turkish food at Cafe Orchid. I had the Uskudar which tasted kind of like eggplant parmesan if you substituted lamb for the mozzarella. Delicious!

3. Friday night we had a ticketing department field trip to see Eric's moustache in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. His moustache was so awesome in the play! It played a very pivotal role.

It was also Matt's last day at work. I was sad :(

We were all sad to see him go and happy for Eric's moustache!

4. Saturday night I had to dress up all purdy and head off to a gala at work. Basically I had to follow around a photographer for two hours and take people's names. Fun stuff, eh? I got to stay for the cabaret though, which was awesome. I mean, how often do you get to see Mark Delavan singing Johnny Cash and playing his guitar?

(I had to memorialize my boxed dinner)

Afterwards I headed over to The Southern. Two weeks ago The Southern was Chaise Lounge. But then they closed and reopened. I was supposed to go on Thursday for their friends and family soft opening because Mat is a waiter there but then he told me they had too many people and I couldn't go. Lame.

So I went on Saturday and it was more bar-y than restaurant-y now. But they had delicious peach martinis. I had three of them while I waited for Mat to get off work. Then some amaretto. :-)

5. So, Valentines Day is Sunday. Sigh :(
All my secret admirers out there should feel free to send pink flowers to my Roscoe Village address...or to my work on Friday ;-)

1. Heather has reminded me of a few things I forgot to write. Like that on my birthday on my way out she bound out of her room singing the Disney Happy Birthday song! Or that the cake I made for her had her favorite homemade frosting that is all butter and powdered sugar and deliciousness :-)

2. I kind of need to get away and am considering taking a massive road trip in April...suggestions on where to go? Right now I am kind of debating between visiting someone who I've met three times or visiting someone who I've met for three hours...

3. Man vs. Food Live was on this week! Actually it was pretty boring, but the Sheas were hosting it. That was odd and awesome.

4. I've been highly distracted lately. I don't know if this is really how I feel or if I've convinced myself of it. It probably doesn't matter.

5. I am also considering dying my hair red again. I am always considering that. Thoughts?

6. Couples Snuggie. Who wants to share with me?

7. "It's like in high school when you'd try to run into someone in the hallway. Except replace 'hallway' with 'internet.'"

8. Sometimes you don't sleep well one night but instead of going to bed early the next day you convince a friend to come over at 11:30pm and drink wine until 2:30am...

9. Typically January is my worst work month of the year. But subscriptions are on sale! With little drama! Having more control over the content made everything so much easier.

10. Me: Want to go to Vegas tomorrow? Him: I can't. Me: OK, how about Amsterdam?

Happy Birthday Heather!

Heather's birthday was...
...dinner at Riverview Tavern - nacos and mushroom pizza. And mango martinis.
....pool and darts and juke box albums at Four Treys. And a random dog.
.....a final drink at Four Moon.
......cake (by special request - white cake from a box with vanilla frosting) and wine and snuggie wearing back at the apartment.

Happy Birthday Heather!
